almost bought you flowers

Today I went to get you flowers The florist had all kinds of beautiful flora They made the place look like paradise Different scents from the flowers Created an atmosphere of heaven I had to make a choice and pick Flowers, which would reflect our love. My eye was caught by the enigma of the rose Its perfection lured me to a closer inspection This surely would be the symbol of our union The rose brought back memories of the love that we share It permeated an aroma of magic, I felt like a child touching heaven The petals were deep red and soft, they felt like pure silk The stem was filled with moisture, thought I would take a sip It smelt like ambrosia the divine drink of the gods. The thorns were symbolic of the hard times we’ve conquered Each spike was a step in the ladder of our success. The rose had been pruned to perfection Just like the love that hols us together I was sure this would be the flower I bring home to you But, then it dawned on my conscious How could I compare our love to a rose? With all its splendour and beauty The rose will wither and die Its sweet moisture will turn sour and bitter The love we share will not fade or perish I almost bought you flowers, to try and say I love you But no flower could come close to represent the love I feel.
