An Act of Kindness

she loooked up at him and smiled slowly reached over and shared a kiss, their embrace held tight... why would you do this for me he wondered, why now? did you feel my great sadness each time we tarried, speaking of days in our past so far removed, banished to flashes of memories spread across that great landscape of scenes alive only in dreams, blown around in those night skies and then, gone with the wind just like that is it the heartbreak of tears shed, that no one sees alone in a house without sound lingering thoughts of happier times when he was much younger and the dew was still new, anything seemed possible. where did all that happiness go? lost in a daze of mindless confusion when we all thought we had plenty of time for choices not made, back then and now quiet, solitude awaits the lonely soldier who eats at a table set for one, not two he reached up and touched his face remembering the kindness of her kiss...
