AN EXERCISE IN FUTILITY Have you ever felt The words stick in your throat? You try to speak, but then a sudden rush of weariness numbs you; And you wonder why you strive so hard – For in the end – No one understands you Anyway. So then you let The words remain unspoken, And with unnoticed ease, the weariness becomes a pensioner, in for the long haul; And each new day a little bit of you fades and dies, In a sacrifice that No one asked for Anyway.

Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it...
