An Ode to the Dead

An Ode to the Dead Come back as you were Oh dear dead friends come back again Come back strangers as you were Come back poor people as you were Come back wherever you are now Come back dear dead friends though you’re dead [Pause] Silence … Silence for a moment Oh you the knocking at the door Please, tell me who are you? Would the world be yours or mine? [Pause] We have nothing else to give We gave him my blood We gave him our bones and craniums And we passed by the river so disappointed We have nothing but some soil from the past [Pause] Silence … Silence for a moment Oh you the knocking at the door Your voices are scaring and upsetting And come back do not deprive us From the pleasure of running like a river
