these memories are so painful as they turn layer by layer revealed in freeze dried fears lingering glimpses of former trials and burns. step across the sidewalk of my mind and meet me again at our late night haunts where we spoke of dreams crushed against the sudden shock and how we'd work to overcome in spite of, a hundred flaming arrows heading our way do you remember me there? or was it all a dream did we ever belong you needed me then, a thousand calls, a million tears we shed and now, I walk this lonely road it's quiet here inside this calm, I'm drowning pressed against these waves as the taste of yesterday slowly fades, I need you now, but you've gone away swept along the midst of your unbearable pain into some other place I'll never be and all I have are these thoughts that yearn, as memories turn lessons learned, but never taught
