And to the questions regarding salt...
A man walked into a diner He ordered two eggs Pancakes Vermont maple syrup Sliced bacon And a tepid cup of coffee And when asked if he needed salt He simply replied Yes! A man sat in a lonesome diner Just staring inanely into the open street An avenue With beautiful trees and Probably birds singing And he liked their arias and sonnets He grew accustomed To the tones that so softly subdued thoughts And he found that loneliness In time could be his friend And when asked if he needed more salt He simply replied Yes! A man walked out a diner Without so much As the hint of a companion He was a free man It seemed Caught up in the singing of the birds And the trees on the avenue As caught up as a man could ever be When you wake up From a lifetime of being together To now simply Being referred to as No, it’s just Me A man walked into a diner He sat alone He ate alone He listened to the birds alone Studied the trees Out on the avenue alone Being hopeful that someone would say Do you need any salt with that? To which he’d always reply Yes!
