Ashes
I have lost you somewhere between dusk and the moon on the horizon. I cast stones at the surface of night and my heart skipped a beat as the fight in me started rising. I have chased you down too many winding flights of creaky stairs, breathing in fading shoe clicks and stepping on leftover air. The stars are dying tonight, and I am bathing in their dust. I have tucked memories into shadows for the morning sun to burn off. And when it’s all done, ashes will be enough.
