At the Circus
A day spent at the circus looks like a load of fun But is it really? Shouldn't it rather be called a nightmare It is For some You thought the lion roared because he was asked to But no He roared because he's in pain He'd rather jump through a ring of fire Than face the torture that will follow if he doesn't And that little pony trotting around the ring Do you really think he wants to be there And what of the monkey Is he wearing a dress to look cute Or to hide the scars and sticking out ribs that lurk beneath The camel belongs to the desert Not in a cage on wheels And the elephant? It wasn't a fight that caused those wounds He was driven insane by the constant claustrophobia that surrounded him in his cage That and the whips that were flicked at him The little dog doesn't run in circles because he's clever Oh no! He does that because he doesn't know how to stop Or he's too scared to stop Or his mind just works better that way The tiger cub misses his mommy And the bear misses his home A day at the circus, What fun! Yeah right!
