Baby, you're growing up

One minute, you're clutching your mother's hand It's your first day of school and you can't do it with out her Close your eyes, baby. When you open them, Your mother's hand is gone and it's only you It's your first day of high school And that first day, with Mommy, seems so far away now Hold your breath, baby As it all speeds by Your life, suddenly in hyper speed Shake your head, baby When they ask you what you wantto do Because you're young and you don't know just yet Let the tears fall, baby As you go deal with problems mommy can't help you with Taste the bitter nectar of high school Coursing through your veins and opening your eyes Look around, baby High school girls with their piercings and their belly shirts High school boys with their cold hands and dangerous smiles Close your eyes, baby And think back to that day When mommy's hand could pull you through anything One minute, you're young and innocent With the world at your fingertips Close your eyes, baby. When you open them Your innocence is gone, The world is too big, and it;s gobbling you up. Take a deep breath, baby. Because you're growing up.
