Todd had dozed off With headphones on his ears They had been flying for four hours So they were almost near Then Todd’s attention was diverted To the sighting of a beautiful, blonde bombshell Speechless he couldn’t properly word His reaction to how he felt So he just simply told her that she was beautiful And blushing she smiled and said thanks For the first time in his life Todd was rising among the ranks She told him that her name was Claire Then she asked him for his name So he told her his name was Todd wishing he was a normal man But his healthjust wasn’t the same Claire said “So Todd tell me about yourself What city are you from?” Todd said “I’m from Detroit, Michigan it’s a dull city And trust me it’s no fun.” They both chuckled then Claire said “Well I’m from New York The city that never sleeps and The Empire State Building I’ve been there before.” Todd smiled and said “Really that sounds interesting But listen there’s something that I gotta tell you I have terminal cancer and day after day it haunts me But I know that some people have it worse than I do.” Claire said “Awww… bless your little heart I’m sorry to hear that Cancer is like a thief coming to steal your oxygen And crush you flat.” Todd nodded his head With a sad expression on his face Then Claire asked him if he would like to grab a drink And Todd said “That would be great.” There was only a couple of hours left until the plane landed But just knowing that he had someone who cared Made him feel better than he ever did By Glenn McCrary © 2009 Glenn McCrary (All rights reserved)
