Benadam's First Assault on Arcanis

(This is another from the Valrou'hain series, again fairly early in the time line. 'Benadam's Challenge', posted in Dawn's page, immediarely precedes this one.) Defence so far has proved no test; I've hewn off all your toes that sought to veto my ascent by trip or snagging clothes, my shield deflected avalanches thrown from upper heights, I've crossed ravines like stepping stones – Arcanis shows no fight. Perhaps you sense the time has come to bow your head to men and leave the servile post you hold, be mountain once again, for never meant as sentient were mountainsides and hills; a blasphemy to living things, against the true God's will. I feel you tremble, mount of stone, as higher peaks I reach, before too long I'll make the scarp, soon last defence will breach; the guardian rocks I cleft below have only honed my blade you'll find my sword is keener now, you're right to feel afraid. Too soon reminded fate has ways of mocking spoken pride, Arcanis gloats on me below, thrown prostrate by her side, as if a piece of rubbish tossed away by careless hand, unwanted refuse left behind to soil the Lord's fair land. I conquered all that lay below, but not the mount itself, a sudden trembling underfoot propelled me from your shelf; though body broke, my will is still as strong as at the start, I'll rest, I'll heal, and then return to break Arcanis' heart.
