Beware the wrath of gods. Sitting astride the great rift, result of Jupiter's ire; a once mighty palace did shift, blackened by Vulcan's fire invasive waters rushed in, frescoed columns crumbled; gods upset by mortal sin, ceilings and pride both tumbled king of the gods was offended, sacrifice regime not kept; overdue prayers rendered, emperor and priests both wept folly like theirs was insane, ruler on Earth a man could be; the wrath of the gods was plain: man should serve his deity a priesthood grown rich and smug, raised a man to be a god; their own graves they have dug, Death god Pluto turned first sod not all on high were annoyed, favoured sons and daughters saved; rescue plans were soon deployed, paths to safety smoothly paved not worthy of the gods' disdain, servants scurried out of harm; that deception saved them pain, love of lesser gods their charm a balloon the last to leave, a man, his wife and their son; dressed alike but to deceive, these disguised royals make a run Man take care of who you trust, jealous gods will still your heart; fabled palace all but dust, lives and families torn apart
