Birthday memory
No photograph exists but I remember clearly the anticipation, excitement; balloons of course a riot of rainbow colours vying with ultra modish green, orange and white wall. A table laden with treats; coconut jamboree mallows, chocolate fingers and wafers, pear mice on lime jelly field. Hitting those newsprint fish so hard, Daddy determined to make them swim to the line. I know now how much love was baked into that cake... Magnificent fairy toadstool with its smooth walls of crystal white; intricate lattices of baby pink windows, doors and gills. Emerald coconut grassy garden leading up the path. Dancing amongst a myriad of bejewelled sugar flowers the most beautiful fairy. I found a card years later wishing me Happy Birthday with fondest love.
