i want you to take the cold heavy magnet 
and as i place it in your hand to hold 
i would love for you to feel the weight of it 
before you place it down upon the table 
taking out a handful of iron dust and filings 
to sprinkle it over the heady thing 
as it lies there upon the old wooden table 
for what you are looking at is the general pattern 
of how things are and how they are not 
painted in lines yet connect 
bound threads in the same knot 
it is a mighty picture that to you 
probably seems like any other phenomenon 
but what you are looking at is why and how 
parents don't call all of their children Bob 
and Lilly 
why everyone is not outside milling on the farm
