Bound by Reason
(Changed the formatting of the last stanza to match the rest of the poem; hope everyone likes it better this way) Some people live life through emotion, Some are bound by reason, Some people have a love of nation, Some are prone to treason, Some people know what justice means, While some would rather steal, Some people have a sense of guilt, That some will never feel. Some people know what’s right from wrong, Some people are not caring, Some people’s lives are ruled by fear, While some are rather daring, Some people know what duty is, And live to service others, Some people live within themselves, Are lost among their brothers. But right is right, and wrong is wrong, It’s not about perception, And sometimes doing right is lost, By striving for perfection, ‘Cause some just think about themselves, And fret to lend a hand, Some people who can live this way, I’ll never understand. Some people seem afraid to fight, Afraid that they might fall, But such a thing as sacrifice, Exists to help us all, Some people want to do what’s right, By following their heart, Some people try to change the world, They fail …but it’s a start. Some people travel through this world, And never leave a trace, But through our deeds, We all can better serve the human race. Emotions can transform us, Like the changing of the season, So trust your heart, And never let your mind be bound by reason.
