Bridge to You

That way leads right into Downtown Courthouses and banks And beyond that Our old school A few right turns away From the apartment The old bed we shared And the car we cursed happily together At each sputter and squeal. The other end lands across the river By the treatment plant where I worked My punch-clock mistress The reason for a thousand goodbye kisses Beyond that, the greener hills Cul-de-sac neighborhoods We’d tour each Christmas To watch the pretty lights. Over this rail is a safety fence And beyond that, a gorgeous view Cloudless sky and street lights And a hundred feet of cold night air Out there, there’s one last wish Waiting to be made With all my heart A drop long enough To say “I love you” And close the gap between us.

Not much to say. I'm a father of four, working to keep my pygmies fat and happy. I have always liked Robert Frost, but a recent book that I'd stumbled across introduced me to John Donne.
