Broken

Hey Guys, Long time no talk! I have been very busy for the past while, and I'm starting to get back into performance poetry writing. Please keep in mind as always that these poems are meant to be heard more than read, so they may seem clunky at first. This poem specifically was one written for a script, its sort of rap form, which is very new to me, but it can still be read much like spoken word. So, please enjoy a piece i've been working on recently I saw the lightning in her veins, It moves so fast so quick the shock goes straight to the brain. She’s irresponsible, and she feels like a victim, She’s everything i’ve ever wanted nothing to do with and its been: Seven whole years since we’ve seen each other, The sun burning bright light and dark night of Florida summers. To those years we never forget or get back, Doesn’t mean we can’t feel those frozen moments like ice packs Hair was bright red and fire eyes to match, With no motive or intuition, just a plan of attack. irresistible motions and she notices how hopeless your focus is, When you focus in on the lotus dress she’s been flowing in.. ..She's broken, Her story’s got weathered and torn pages, A scratched record, but still plays loud like a song for the ages. She don’t mind the attention she usually gets, But she’s got the mentality of a person living through sudden insanity and its.. ..Getting kind of discouraging to see her like this. She’s beautiful but her dead eyes make it hard to appreciate the gifts, that she used to give with every little smile to me. So now she just sits back, so i can watch her bleed. All her sins; the broken moments she holds tight. it’s alright, I used to say, just to avoid the fight, Of all the temptation i’d been having for the short time when met. Like electricity that entices enough to chase after it So i still get those nights of static, sparks in the fabric, Too far to imagine but oh so close i could have it. But I don’t blame the fire in her eyes for burning out, It only takes so far for the rain to fall during a long drought. And believe me those tears fall just like a thunderstorm, Dousing out the flicks and fires but sparking up some more, so feel the warmth; The intensity, her need to improve her lifestyle, While she travels to that place, this girl been thinking for miles. You can see the blood on her lips, She’s been coughing for days the cigarettes are getting to her system. And she don’t know how hard it hits, When I’m the only one of us seeing the brightness in the dark room she sits in.
