Cat Walk

From the study through window high, She sees below the world spread out; An explorer she, a gardener he, As she’s so keen to walk about. He sits tight – no wish to go, Thinks - “what a scruff is she!” Out she steps with me in tow, Harness donned, but feels so free! So soft and silky, neighbours adore, Her head held high, so proud is she; A cut above the cat next door - A friend - but lowly caste is he. Not there, her friend of lowly caste, So on she trots, so keen, so tall; Reviews and probes her world so vast, With head held high - in charge of all. A sudden noise – she briefly stops, As up the hill a car roars by; And on her tummy down she flops, A drastic shock she doesn’t deny. Up she gets, undismayed, So sunny now, she wants to roll On pavement warm and in the shade, And proudly then resumes her stroll. Sniffing hedges, watching bees, Pigeons on lawns she spots; But favourite walls ahead she sees, And - up she jumps, along she trots. An earwig crawls upon the wall, Her paw outstretched, what cheek she thinks; Tasty perhaps, tho’ very small, It glares at her and now she blinks! But not perturbed, and bold as brass, On and off the wall she hops; Sniffing daisies, nibbling grass, But in her tracks she suddenly stops. A head stoops down – and up she looks, “Oh him I know! and him I trust!” - She clearly thinks – no problem brooks, So in his hand her head she thrusts. On she trots, with home so near, Around the world she’s proudly been; Enters her room - sees brother dear, “All is well with all I’ve seen.” This light-hearted, not too serious, poem was written as one of our cats enjoys being taken – on a brace like a pet dog – around the road on which we live. She enjoys meeting people and trotting along brick garden walls. She raises many opportunities for her to meet neighbours and for me to meet and chat with people I would otherwise only see passing by in a car!

Love creativity - especially writing - poems especially. Love my wife, cats, our church, reading, warm weather (so rare here!) and snow - quite common these days - even in spring....
