Cats and gold galore
What would a cat do if it discovered gold galore? Would it be enchanted by the desert Arab's hoard? It simply sees a surface that's unsuitable for sleep, Perhaps it paws a trinket off the nearest treasure heap Then it licks its tail, regards a chest it finds ajar, And turning, rubs its back along a jeweled scimitar, And leaves this place in hope of finding bird or desert mouse Among abandoned sandy dunes encircling my house My cat slinks quickly through the door and sits and stares at me, Two slits incomprehensible imbued with mystery, For an instant I can see a look of pity thence, Then it stands to find a place a catnap can commence A sudden flash in dusty fur, a giant emerald! An earring clinging not unlike a tick's reliant hold, It notices this irritant and flicks it to the floor, As I am left to puzzle over cats and gold galore
