Chasing Daisy

So there lay our boy Jay Gatz In his little rubber bubble Calling,"Daisy?....Daisy?...." And what he did not know Was that some poor dupe Had a pistol aimed at him. Then he shot him.And the slug Tore through Jay's back and into The rubber bubble and then poor Jay Poor Jay sank to the bottom of his Pool leaving a brilliant scarlet trail Just like our boy Icarus did. That Jerk! Not one friend Warned him that there is No Daisy....there never was....and You will always....always....go down In flames chasing Daisy.... Go down red chasing Daisy. This poem refers to the novel, The Great Gatsby and specifically to Gatsby's death near the end of the novel. It also helps to know the myth of Icarus. Finally,it helps to know that the daisy,a flower, and a woman's name in the novel, are named after the Sun,which in older days was called the day's eye. Understanding the meaning of this poem depends on understanding those three things. This is a literate poem and I invite you to explore it.
