Check-check (revised).

I wrote some additions after reading the comments of WArcher. “Check-check”, said the tiny bird. “What check?” I asked it and heard The bird repeat,“Check-check”. “Do you want to pay by cheque?” SmiledI. But it kept on “Check-check”. I said, “What’s wrong? You needn’t pay: it’s free.” “Check-check” came from the tree, And suddenly I saw Tom freezing on the floor! And then it happened, quite fast, As if it was a passing gust: One of the yellow-beaked Left the safe leaves of the tree And landed at the mirror, Tom roared and jumped sheer, His slog was mortally exact: The mirror flitted like a bat. The Mom-bird screamed, “Check-check!!!” “Check? Hah! And now… Mate!” said I and laughed: I’d caught Tom puzzled a bit before He turned to make the 2nd slog. This story is almost real. In my garden a family of white-throat warblers like training: the father and the mother control the two youngs that are very naïve and foolishly brave. So I often hear “Check-check”. This command turns into a very aggressive cry when one of many cats is somewhere near, and it is a picturesque show.
