City Lullaby
The city from the windows seemed a blur, And silence seeped through every breathing pore, And only rare ambulance alarms Rang through the air like swift razor cuts. Soft sofa cushions have enveloped me, Their touch - a subtle Middle Eastern feel. The grumpy fridge hummed fussily away. “Good night, good night…” – I faintly heard it say. “Tick tock” - the clocks were murmuring to me, “It’s time to sleep” - was echoing the TV. The lights have formed an undercover ring And faded one by one till dark was deep. With my resistance utterly futile, I fell asleep to their lullaby.
