An eagle was watching a lion and envied his surfeit of prey, the lion had herds to rely on but his search was endless each day. The heavens the eagle commanded, here his voice would always hold sway; he knew that, whatever demanded, his subjects would always obey. But plentiful jungle attracted and rankled in vexatious ways, if Lion could just be subtracted then jungle’s full harvest free lay. It was his considered opinion that Lion must serve as his prey. The lion was watching the eagle and envied his power of flight. He knew he was king of the jungle, that others were cowed by his might, that lions ruled over their victims and reign was a God given right. But flight was a power beyond him, reserved for the wren and the kite. Since land was his only dominion he vowed he would alter this blight, this curb on his rightful position and mend this divine oversight. It was his considered opinion That Eagle must suffer his bite. The undeclared war escalated, the birds and the beasts chose their sides, the hawk wings to Eagle’s cause hasted, the tiger for lion decides. The bear and the dragon stand neutral, the cock’rel at both of them crowed, the wren went the way of the wagtail while bull wasn’t sure of his road. The reptiles and insects were baffled and wondered at warfare’s high cost, hyena and jackal packs gathered to feast on the bones of the lost. It was their considered opinion that conflict was good for their cause.
