Darkness Returned
**Follow up to my earlier poem "Darkness"** Years spin by, my mother subdued, maternal protection, used and abused. College days over, time to be free, freedom looms, come with me? A plea. He loves me, it's the drink, a sobbing reply, I simply shake my head, leave with a sigh. Heard it before, the drink, drugs or love, self imposed prison, enclosed like a glove. My life starts afresh, a man enters my life, wariness creeps in, this could lead to strife. He's kind, gentle, caring, a great source of pride, two years of courting, fiance becomes bride. My belly soon swells, life comes in due time, ultrasound reveals, a daughter is mine. Eight months later, she's glorious i think, my perfect man celebrates by taking a drink. The demon's unleashed, inebriated rage, sudenly i'm caught, in my mother's cage. Wheel turns full circle, i finally see, my daughter is all, more important than me.
