Daybreak

·Jewel

Night bows down to Dawn As she colours the dark with hues of blue The cry of the fish eagle Announces the new day. The chatter of birds fills the air The soft eyes and big ears of the Kudu doe Are all you see amongst the foliage of thorntrees As she stares at you Startled into stillness by your presence. A sudden rush of sound Reveals fleeing Springbok as they dart and jump Ballerina's of the wild, small and graceful. The sun peers over the horizon Casting its rays of light into the sky Reflecting on the waterhole ripples As blue Wildebeest quench their thirst. A family of Hippo drift motionless in the water With snorts of companionship And big yawns Ease into the day.
