DAYS OF PLENTY

DAYS OF PLENTY There were days of plenty And there were days of none But this is the story Of what happened in between Everything gone In one single day Left to the whims Of the fickleness of fate If I were to lay those Days end to end It would reach from the top To the bottom of the Earth The days laced with wine And the days laced with song In quiet anticipation Of the coming of storms Never enjoying for one single moment Since the joys of my days were flawed with contempt Always on the lookout For those vicious spoilers Those potent elixirs Of evil and good Front to back Hot to cold "Too late we get smart Too young we get old." This is a saying My mother used to tell me Though I never quite grasped How right she would be. If I could have back Even one of those days I would let myself be glad In every single way.
