Different Hats
Different Hats You swept in like sawdust on the wind, stinging my eyes to salty tears, lodging fear in my throat, demanding more than I felt easy with. You meant to stun and you did. Did you mean to intimidate? I like to think not. Yet, you did. I was shy, impressed and afraid. Gradually, we became friends. No surprise to you, I know. The summer sun shone for us. Laughter, exploration, surprises in plenty Fluid friendship, it seemed. Always flowing and, like unshed lava, intensifying in strength. I felt your underlying flame singeing the edges of my defences "Trust me, dear friend," you said I knew not how, then. You patiently taught me but my radar was faulty, as usual We are friends still, having diverted a little. The meander was delicious, intoxicating, although... My footsteps wove a different path, my mind encompassed a different truth, a sweeter truth, I thought. Love comes in different hats. As long as it is love, I am content to wear this hat of the jester, the fool.
