Donnis, Jerry Jeff and Me!

Here is a poem that I wrote for my friend. Almost the entire poem is written with titles of the songs of Jerry Jeff Walker, an american songwriter, poet and artist whom we both really admire. I know the grammer is not right. It should be Donnis, Jerry Jeff and I, but you know what it rhymes better wrong! What the hell! DONNIS, JERRY JEFF AND ME Dedicated to Donnis, My best friend, I miss you! Donnis and Jerry Jeff and me We go way back It\\'s got history to it. It runs right through it Like that box of sangria wine After dinner time While making cupcakes And telling jokes Hysterical ones where you Pee your pants We might even dance If we got the urge Don\\'t it make you wanna? And we\\'d cry when we heard Little bird and The Lovin makes the Living Worthwhile Like Gonzo Compadres singing Mr. Bojangles we were Barely Getting By on the L.A. Freeway! Like Desperadoes Waitin For a Train Filled with Trashy Women We were heading for Hill Country Rain To go Barefootin Layed all day in the sun to get a tan But we still believed in the Quiet Faith of Man. We were Playing That Honkey Tonk Music In Cowboy Boots and Bathing Suits. We were Railroad Ladies who Rock and Rolled our Babies to the sound of the Rodeo Wind! We were Up Against the Wall and Pissin in the Wind Just taking Life as it Comes, We would sing along To the Pick Up Truck Song And try to remember the words! Like Hairy-Assed Hillbillies, We sang Come Away to Belize With Me, And Champagne Don\\'t Hurt Me None! With Texas On My Mind we Got so Damn Bad Last Night, We felt like that Hank Williams Song. Now I Don\\'t Drink as Much as I Ought To, So I have the London Homesick Blues, And I\\'m Missing you Through and Through, And I don\\'t play Jerry Jeff Quite as Much as I\\'d Like, but I Feel Llike Hank Williams Tonight. Donnis and me and and the Gypsy Songman Go all the way back to Luchenbach,Viva Terlingua! Maybe it\\'s Time to get Back to the Basics in Life! Like Gonzo Compadres, We go way back , way back, Just like the Man in the Big Hat. Who\\'s Buying Tonight! By WordPlaya, Jan 2008 ************************************************ THE GONZO COMPADRES By: Jerry Jeff Walker - Viva terlingua, Viva Luckenbach! Chorus: They call us the gonzos, the gonzo compadres Los cinco caballeros, mirado las estrellas And they call us the gonzos, the gonzo compadres Los gatos con queso, and we love our mommies We live by the mountains, we live by the sea We live by our wits, we live to be free We never take prisoners, we take no requests What we do mostly is what we do best Chorus We laugh and we cry and we sing and we dance We fly through the air by the seat of our pants With Captain Pendejo, tequila in hand We fall to our knees and kiss the ground when we land Chorus We\\'re brave companeros, we ride beyond fences We take to the road, taking leave of our senses Adios amigos, so long senoritas Your salty tears flavor our margaritas

I enjoy writing and since rediscovering the power of poetry, it has brought me much joy! My favorite poet is Richard Brautigan, and I am a big fan of freestyle poetry, as I find it less limiting and most creative. I also like spoken word poetry. ...
