Doves and Glass

I once worked in a large building several stories tall glass windows instead of walls and the birds would come and they would crash into the windows feathery kamikazes divine wind indeed. As first it was sparrows whose delicate corpses on the window ledges could be overlooked but then came the doves roly-poly birds whose crashes were quite audible the results quite visible baby Hindenburgs going down. So large decals portraying other birds were glued to the windows an avian defensive unit to ward off the self destructive but incoming birds seemed to rise to the perceived challenge of breaching these sentinels and a deadly line of scrimmage was formed at the glass. Why? Some opined that the star-crossed birds saw leaves and other vegetation reflected in the glass and were making their way for it others say they simply couldn’t see the glass while others maintain they mistook the decals and their reflected selves for attackers and the joust was on but no one asked the birds who not being adept in inter species chitchat wouldn’t have been very forthcoming. So they fell victim to an illusory vision that they felt compelled to pursue or they were effectively blindsided by hastily overlooked barriers much the same as man in all his wisdom and with much the same results.
