Elizabethan Times

To live in those Elizabethan Times When all spoken words did rhyme When describing a star filled more than a script And writing a letter needed the sharpest of tips. When the dresses flowed over suffocating bodices When it was an art to be known as a novelist And parties were thrown for the rich and merry With all kinds of wine, overflowing with sherry. The mountains would swagger their greatest assets With castles upon them and lakes all in placid When jokers performed song and dance to the king And only the best of diamonds were worn by his Queen. When hours would pass slower than before And castles were clasped by the oldest of doors Still to this verse the letter would be far En route to my lover wishing on a star. Oh! To clock back to those Glorious Days When words were of etiquette and all was a haze When horses trotted past and swords formed the arc But beauty was for the fair and slavery for the dark!
