I despise empathy. Wounding shaft of fire and ice that delves down to the dark virgin depths of the heart. I loathe this feeling; unasked, unsought, that smothers me in its oily slick of shame. I detest empathy. Unseen foe; circling, prowling, striking deep at the vulnerable core of me. I hate this feeling; boiling, freezing - a tidal wave that drowns my shallow self.

Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it...
