Faded Were the Words of Old

Faded were the words of old That held the thoughts, once forced to hold On the walls that used to shine Images controlled our minds Time went by, without a change Years and years – tormenting same The foundation stood so strong in place That freedom seemed an empty chase But through the cracks, the light shone through From darkest night, came dawn anew In this hour, of our defiance We stood together, for those behind us And through our fight, we fought together And took back what we swore to hold forever But from this wall that used to blind us Came the fear that used to bind us Neighbours to enemies, friend to foe Quarrelling for each one’s own Unlike the fight of which we sung Our new found fight could not be won The broken pieces of stone lay strewn From the wall, of which we knew Dug in place in single rows We scribbled names of those we know Faded are these names of old Bound together, by words we’re told Once the ones that stood together In the ground we lie forever
