High in the blackened branches trilling Inherent needs confront the wind Birds gather infinitely milling Keen for their Rapture to begin The wild geese in formation wending Loud cackling 'cheerios' are sending To shrinking woods whose borrowed time Is etched in cords of twisted grime And pewter skies endorse 'draft dodgers' To stay at home and vie for shares With gulls and pigeons in town squares Those indefatigable Watchers Who scavenge symbiotic scraps From careless hands and fast food trash
