FOR BABY NGOZI AND MOTHER ANN,
(Mother and child who was still breast feeding Detained for seven days by the Nigerian Police At the State criminal Investigative Department (SCID), Panti, when the police could not lay hands on the breadwinner of the family) Mother look at your child, Child look at your mother, Shed no more tears folks, Though it is a matter, For weighty tears, Longer than Mississippi, For your tears may become weighty, For they come with a noise of pain, That you may not hear me, My sorrow so deep, My anger so profuse, My bitterness so measureless. What a land? What a land so hopeless? What a land so helpless? A land so harpless! A land without respect, Not respect in iota measure, For the future, And the womb that nurtures the future. Shed no more tears folks Though it is a matter for weighty tears, Longer than Mississippi, The tears are not yours, You can't even weep them enough, They are hidden in a labyrinthine of sorrow, It is the tears of the land, A land without respect, Respect for the future, And the womb that nurtures the future! Any hope for the land?
