For my Father
In your eyes I see a sadness, A sickness brooding deep inside you. Weariness of a soldier who’s seen a death too many, The dullness and absence of life worries me, You are different to how I remember you. Tall, Strong and Wise. My ultimate hero. How I used to feel perched so high upon your shoulders, Surely the tallest boy in the world. How the days used to fly When we played together, How precious my time is with you I will never be able to grasp, But I will cherish it with all my heart.
