Know that im am there for you From the second I watched the spark of life enter your eyes ‘Til the same spark leaves mine As a child, your life is simple I can do no wrong in your eyes You live for the next bedtime story Never questioning if I will be there in the morning I take advantage of your love You only wish for more time with me As you grow older, so we grow apart I can do no right, embarrassing you with how I try Now I live for a chance to tell those bedtime stories Thinking of how things used to be I relish the time of your unquestioned love You only wish for more time with your friends As I watch you grow, I hope my best was enough Did I do all I could? Was I there when you needed me? Did I love you as much as I could have? I think about it and hope I did You grow older, and into a life of your own We talk every now and then I give advice, needed or not You hear me, listening or not Either way im proud of what you’ve become Even when I don’t tell you Throughout I have tried to be Dad The one you wanted me to be And the one you needed I hope you know how hard I tried As I grow old, life gets simple I did my best, right or wrong in anyone’s eyes I live for the daily phone conversation Questioning if I will still be here in the morning Im thankful to still have your love Im happy for anytime spent together In the end I tried to always be there for you But it was you who was there for me Thank you
