Forgive me

Forgive me for the mistakes of my fathers For the destruction done to the people of this land And for all the sisters and the brothers Who suffered at the will of their uncaring hand Forgive me for the sins of the oppressors Who stole from your people their dignity And patronizing your beloved ancestors Reduced, they lost their humanity Forgive for the colour of my skin For reminding you of pain once inflicted My whiteness is my biggest sin That and what it once depicted Forgive me for my love for your land A land who’s spirit my fathers have torn For writing the words ‘home’ in your sand And for it being the land in which I was born Forgive me for the blue of my eye For the blonde of my hair and for my last name I have never done harm but yet I cry For the blood in my veins are still to blame
