Forgive Them Anyway

Though they never seem to appreciate The things you do, both small and great If good with evil they repay Forgive them anyway. Though they often judge and are so unkind They talk of you, pay them no mind No matter what they do or say Forgive them anyway. Although they don't ask to be forgiven Though the best of you you’ve given And they just threw it all away Forgive them anyway. Though the words they say cut deep to the core You feel you can’t take anymore From bitterness be free today Forgive them anyway. When betrayals hurt like knives to the heart It feels they’ve torn your world apart These words again to you I say Forgive them anyway. They’ve broken your heart and shattered your trust Your name they’ve trampled in the dust Revenge is not the healing way Forgive them anyway. It seems like your soul they’ve crushed and taken You feel abandoned, forsaken Be free, don’t let resentment stay Forgive them anyway. They let you down when you thought they were true They turned their backs, walked out on you But hate’s a heavy load they say So forgive them anyway. There’s a Friend I know who’s tested and true Though others leave, He'll stay with you He’ll hold your hand, He’ll always care When life gets hard to bear. And today He’s saying to you and me You all need forgiveness, you see I forgive you, you forgive them Forgive once, then again. For they need forgiveness and you need peace Let go, from the past be released They’ve pushed you down, I’ll help you stand Put all that’s broken in my hands To heal and fix, I’ll find a way… …And just forgive them anyway.
