Four words
Four short simple words, Sharp like ancient swords, Cut my heart in two When you said: “I’m through with you!” Tears stood in my eyes, As I watched you rise, Pick bags off the floor And walk out the door for good. Not too long ago, Probably for show, As you held me close, Four words that you chose Were “I love you so!” Did you? As I drank and cried Trying to clear my mind, Suddenly I knew Who I was to you: “Just an easy lay...” - Four words. Two years have gone by - I began to smile - When out of the blue, Four words said by you Were “Please take me back!”. For real? Who could have surmised Such a nice surprise? But now, for a start, Four words in my heart Were “To hell with you!” Good bye!
