Foxglove Fayre - for Lori
Lori, This is for you to read to the new arrival when he/she is old enough Foxglove Fayre A nymphet played a reedy flute As she danced upon fresh air An elven minstrel strummed a lute At the bi-annual Foxglove Fayre A band of beetles burst balloons A firefly did a luminous jig A lovebird sang the sweetest tunes Perched upon a mistletoe twig A silk worm spun a golden thread For the Faerie Queen to wear A sprite gave her a carnation red And she wore it in her hair A gnome narrated a nursery rhyme A leprechaun launched a limerick A dandelion clock told the time And a hobbit did a vanishing trick At the weeping willow wishing well Angel dust was in the air An old witch weaved a magic spell At the bi-annual Foxglove Fayre Granny Lee needed no explanation As she tended her flower bed And saw a petal from a red carnation A tiny length of golden thread No one knew and she did not tell How her foxgloves had beauty so rare Thanks to a witch’s magic spell At the bi-annual Foxglove Fayre
