Freedom from Ash
A sombre cloud hangs over my tired soul With no end or release in sight Through the thicket of painful memories I can see a glimmer of something brighter. It itches to reach me, Extending its warmth It tries with all its might. The thicket is still too dense And my heart has not the courage to clear it. With some strength, however, And some hope of freedom Do I find that courage to break through And a release find. In this valley there seems no escape But in the quiet of desperation Do the silent screams their echo find. The cindered touch has left its blemish But with each beat my heart a grain of ash releases And in those strong and steady beats That guide my courage on I find such strength and resolve That in the end I become, I am, Free.
