Game of Pretend
Ghazal-style poetry. (16) So why is beauty hard to tame? I can't pretend to understand. Is my physique my restless shame? I can't pretend to understand. And when I look in mirrors, broken by the hand of touch and take, This world behind the glass is fake. I can't pretend to understand. Yet if a woman looks her best and sees the least of what she can, She will not love herself nor man; I can't pretend to understand. It's love that makes you beautiful, the simplest act of selflessness, I know I'd never love you less, though I pretend to understand.

I care not so much what I am to others as what I am to myself. Michel de Montaigne
