GEMS AND STONES
When I was a young man I swam in seas of turquoise blue, when I awakened every morning the world seemed fresh and new. The emerald green grass I walked on was soft beneath my tread, I saw sapphire blue skies of summer and sunsets of ruby red. The amethyst of evening the jet of night time skies, this kaleidoscope of colour right before my very eyes. When I was a young man I saw beauty in everything I'd seen now I just see ugliness everywhere mankind has been. Now my days are shorter I walk under skies of grey, that emerald green grass I once trod on has long since turned to hay. Now as life slips on by me there are few things diamond bright, just the moon above us and the stars that shine at night.
