Grey Steps
The steps looked grey; As if a cloud had formed. Amongst the mist she was spotted, Climbing down lengthy. Her polka-dot dress Reached her scraped knees. The faded colour signified How long it had not hung out to dry Her eyes could be seen from a distance. Though rosy cheeks were expected of a child; This girls cheeks were whiter Than a jasmine flower. She was searching for something; A presence other than her own, But those thoughts of hers, Told her she was amongst only solitude. Her injured smile fooled no one But nor did anyone care They left her to wait with silence For her mommy to come home.
