His Passion

This was a poem that I wrote last year as a freshman. It was for a project in my theology class, and my teacher liked it so much that she had it submitted to my schools literary magazine. So thus I present this poem to you. In life, He gave And through death, He would save There was a man with great power Who knew His death: its place and hour. And althought He would die in pain, He knew well He would not die in vain. He was tried for blasphemy and vexation, And for this He was condemmed to crucifixion. He was scourged, and He was worn, He was to wear a crown of thorns. He carried a cross, His head high, Knowing his death would be nigh. He was nailed and He was broken Now his final words were spoken. With his last breath, He cried, And he slumped as He died. The earth trembled with much power And the veil split, so the priests cowered. The task acommplished, the deed done, Sin was defeated under an eclipsing sun. As I said before, I will say again; In life He gave, And through death, He would save.
