14-03-2004 “home” should they have two lifetimes to do nothing but sit and listen to you they would still not understand i cannot claim to either but i can offer 2 strong arms and four boring walls that can hold you softly and dull the noise outside the highway has been long and difficult you have crashed and rolled just trying to avoid people heading blindly straight for you your body bruised and sore from the trauma come home and we shall mend your broken wings with eucalyptus bubbles on warm water in the gentle flicker of candles and even if while i tuck you in with thick down sheets and hot water bottles you weep that we were so poor that we could not afford wax paper to make a small boat and the one we made out of old newspaper sank as it hit the water i will smile and wipe the tears away with my thumb and ask you if you heard the hush that fell over the land and saw the sun break through the clouds as our ship set sail and even though it never went far the light shone on its path and oh what a grand day it had a moments pride in the sun
