I Always Knew
I always knew that you would break my heart I could see it in your big blue eyes I always knew that you would leave my life But still it came as some surprise And my poor soul bleeds into the darkness Knowing that your love was untrue The harsh stinging teardrops of solitude Are streaming down my face for you And the deep gnawing pain of loneliness Has driven me into this cocoon From which I’ll wait forever to emerge And then it will still be far too soon I always knew that you would steal my soul I could see it in your big blue eyes I always knew that you would let me down You never fooled me with your lies And my poor eyes weep into the darkness Knowing that you’ll never return The linger of your touch from our embrace Is still stinging like an acid burn And the memory of your kiss upon my lips Reminds me of what I had before As the tightening noose around my neck Means soon I’ll forget forevermore You should have known I would not let you go As you gazed with your big blue eyes You should have known you never had me fooled Even though you told convincing lies And your poor eyes wept into the darkness When you knew my plan to keep you here As the stark meaning of my farewell words Was filling your mind with morbid fear And the grip of my hands around your throat Was cutting short your desperate cries Then your struggling became ever weaker ‘Til at last you closed your big blue eyes
