I am a poet, not a rhymist
My task is, lies to expose, And, tyranny to depose, My primary mission Goes beyond fancy diction, My initial mandate Outweighs being a vocabulary magnate I was tasked Not asked To spue social commentary swords Not fat cat stroking words I careless about the sound Of my words read aloud, I do not seek to battle In hip hop gigs like drunk cattle I do not care if my poem rhymes As long as it sends cautiory chimes Like a noisy church bell Even though I may not well spell Do not compete me to these artists Who will be silent even in the presence of facists They will not invite me to recite in parliamentary meetings Cos they can never take my lyrical beating That shun their hypocritical bleatings And leave their lies exposed to heating I stop here Don’t ask where? This is just a pause I am not even asking for applause I am a poet, not a rhymist
