I am Old

I wrote this poem in a light hearted manner after realising that, to some I am consideredelderly. This actually happened to me and I felt the best way to deal with it was to make a joke of it. (June 2013) I'm not a senior citizen I'm only 58. "Have you a senior's card?" she said while on my coffee date. "No I don't" I replied feeling rather jaded. "The cheek of it" thought I "Do I look that dated?" I realise she didn't mean to insult me in any way But what she said so shocked me it changed the tone of day. I knew she didn't realise I didn't qualify for cheaper rate. But I was shocked, taken off guard In a shocking state. This young café assistant didn't realise the impact her words would have on me, I didn't want to feel aged I only wanted coffee. So to comfort myself from her remark I added a chocolate slice. Although I felt I looked quite old this would make me feel nice.
