I Asked For Your Love But Got This Instead

17 Jan 2011

·Jeff Davis

The one thing you could always remember was to forget about me. But you're happy; I guess that means we've both got What we were fighting for. I've exhausted all my resources In a futile attempt at your heart. But you're happy; Why should it matter to me Who you greet with a kiss? It's been a long time since I've seen That entrancing smile you use. But you're happy; So it doesn't matter that I'm not At the receiving end of your eyes. I never thought you could break me To the point of bruises and scars. But you're happy; What does it matter if I'm lying facedown, Drowning in my own tears and blood? Why not end me before I'm paralyzed, Or abandon me for someone better? Because you're happy. That's the only thing I ever wanted on this earth. Besides you.
